A new story has joined the lineup of tales in a series I’ve entitled Heiress Unaware.
This story was originally written about a teenage girl who’d been in foster care for nine years, felt totally abandoned by her mother, and was about to be emancipated by the child protective services. Over the course of writing I thought of the other people in her life who may not have known where she went or been apprised of her whereabouts, Was the mother at fault? Were there others who might have had a part in the girl’s abandonment? Was there anyone who could have wanted her in their hearts?
That’s when the story made an abrupt about face. In my research I found family members of children who believed they had been betrayed by the system. They had been charged with neglect by association. Grandmothers were excluded because of outside factors. The information was compelling enough to convince me to write the story from a different point of view–the mother who lost her child because of another’s lies.
Remember this is a work of fiction and an outpouring of my imagination. When I completed the novel, I felt I’d captured the heart of each of the characters and had brought a new perspective to an old problem.
My hope is that you’ll come to love the mother Lyn, respect the grandfather Loyal, and ache for the teenager Jamielyn. Pehaps you’ll even find redemption for Vanessa. She needs it the most. Happy reading.
