When my daughter first graduated high school, she continued her art studies with a private tutor who was a student at the University of Oregon. Instead of going home to New Hampshire at the end of each spring term, the tutor opted to stay because she said Oregon summers were delightful.
I wonder what she’d think now.
This has been a long and hot summer—unusual weather where milder temperatures are the norm. Humidity hasn’t been bad, but the heat has been relentless
The warmer weather has dried out our beautiful forests. Wildfires routinely destroy more and more acreage. Homes are lost, people displaced, pristine timber charred beyond use. The soot from the smoke coats my furniture—a small inconvenience in the larger scheme of things, but still an ongoing struggle.
Around me people are stressed about greater events plaguing us. I confess I look at our world and then read Luke 21:11 and wonder if God isn’t sending us a message.
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, along with fearful sights and great signs from heaven.”
There is evidence of this everywhere. The recent conflict in Afghanistan exhibited many of these prophecies. China and Haiti have experienced the earthquakes. Floods, hurricanes, and fires in our own country are wreaking havoc among our peoples.
I’m not a Bible scholar. I only read and study the Scriptures as a part of my daily walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. When I notice similarities in the Bible that parallel what I’m witnessing in my world, I stop and ponder what it all means.
In John 16:33 he said, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”
Those words strengthen me in the midst of the chaos about me.
Jesus doesn’t want anyone lost. I have given my life to Him and in return He promises me eternal life. Will you consider His invitation to you? All He asks is that you believe. Acts 16:31. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.”
Take that step of faith today.
Yes, the Scriptures are a constant source of hope and encouragement, especially during these difficult times! Thanks for sharing.
We cling to what is truth because of all the lies out there. Thanks for writing.
