On a Personal Note

My writing career began when I was six. I had just learned what words could do and I wrote my first story, a six line paragraph. My teacher was so excited she gave me a book mark that said, “Keep writing, Patty.” I still have the bookmark.

While in junior high and high school I worked as a stringer for the local paper, writing columns about my school’s activities. I was paid by the inch.

I attended the University of Oregon where I earned a BA in journalism with specialization in magazine article writing and page design. Those were the days before computers. Everything graphic was done with an x-acto knife. Articles were typed on a typewriter and typeset on a machine that turned the words into code. We’ve come a long way since then.

After college I worked as an in-house editor creating tabloid advertising and newsletters. I married my best friend in 1975 and we’ve been together 39 years.

Publications I’ve written for include: Moody Monthly, Power for Living, Expecting, Focus on the Family Clubhouse.

Articles have also appeared in recent anthologies: Cup of Comfort Bible Promises (2011) In the Company of Angels (June 2012)

My debut novel–An Anchor On Her Heart, published by Mountain Brook Ink, has released and is now available in two formats.

Watch this site for news of upcoming releases of more novels in the series, Mended Hearts.

  1. A friend loaned me An Anchor on her Heart. I didn’t want the journey to end and look forward to the sequel. To make finishing the book special, I made myself a cup of cocoa from scratch to savor along with the final pages of your book.

I agree with your teacher. Keep writing Patricia.

  2. Robin, Thank you for writing. I’m humbled that you were so touched by An Anchor on Her Heart. Would love to sit down with you sometime and share a cup of cocoa.

The sequel is a very different story and releases in March 2018. I post all notices of releases in my newsletter. Join us if you’re interested. Thanks again for writing.

  3. I loved an Anchor on her Heart. One of my grandsons is autistic. He just graduated from a high school specializing in educating handicapped children. We are all so proud of him, for what he has accomplished. Thank you for writing faith based books and for sharing your deep understanding of autistic children.
